How do I run a Speed Test? (Linksys)

A guide on how to run a speed test router to internet and device to internet on the Linksys app.

Accessing and running a speed check

There are two different speed checks you can complete on the Linksys app. Router to internet will test the line speed coming into your router. Device to internet will test the speed this specific device is receiving.

Router to Internet and Device to Internet - Measures the speed hitting your router. (Router speed tests tend to be higher than device tests especially if your device/s are connected to Wi-Fi rather than Ethernet/Cable.)

Device to the Internet - Measures the speed you're currently getting on your device i.e. Phone/Tablet/Computers. These tests can vary drastically, depending on whether they are connected to Wi-Fi vs Cable or the device/s age or distance from the router, amongst other factors

  • Open up the Linksys App and log in if you need to.

  • From your mobile app settings select Speed Check.

  • Finally, you will be given the Results of the speed check.

  • The results will specify how fast your connection is and what you will be able to run on your network with the given speed.

  • You will have the option to run the test again once completed.

Jargon:
Download: The speed at which internet data is transferred from the internet to you. An example would be downloading a game
Upload: The speed at which you send out data to the internet, such as backing up photos
Ping: Think of this like postage. Upload and download speeds are like the size of the parcel, but ping is the speed of delivery. If this is too high it can make things feel slow despite a high download speed.

If you are having any problems with your speed or connection, please contact customer support who will be happy to run tests to see if there is an underlying issue.
