How do I set up my VoIP adapter?

A quick guide to setting up your new Grand stream VoIP adapter.

Connect Phone is a VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) service powered by our full fibre network. In other words, you can use the internet to make and receive phone calls and it doesn't rely on antiquated copper cable to do so!

If you opt in for our Connect Phone service, we'll send you a phone adapter, do all the hard work of porting your landline number over if you'd like to, or give you a new one!

Our Connect Phone service requires a phone adapter to function and works a little differently from a traditional landline, but don't worry! We'll talk you through it at make it as easy as possible.

If you are porting your landline number over to us, your Connect Phone service will not work until that number has transferred over to us. To transfer or 'port' your number to us we need your landline number, the name of your existing supplier, and for that number to remain active with that supplier until it's transferred.

Our Calls service requires a working broadband connection and electricity to power the phone adaptor. In case of an emergency, you must always have another means of making calls, such as a mobile phone, to contact Emergency Services.

Setting up the Phone Adapter

To get started, take a look at the diagram below! This is how you're going to set up your phone adapter and get your VoIP service up and running. The phone adapter requires a power source to work and is plugged in to both your router and landline phone (not supplied).

When the parcel arrives, you'll have your Grand Stream Adapter (a square black box), a power cable, a white adapter/dongle in a separate bag, and at the bottom of the box (beneath the divider) a blue ethernet cable).

Once you're ready to set up:

  • Plug one end of the blue ethernet cable into an available ethernet port on your Linksys Router
  • Plug the other end of the blue ethernet cable into the blue port (the port with the world wide web symbol above it) on the Grandstream Adapter.
  • The white adapter (RJ-11) may not be needed, this depends on your current telephone's cable. If the connection for your telephone cable is too large for the green port (the one with a phone symbol above it) on the Grandstream Adapter please use the RJ-11 and then plug this wire into the green port.**
  • You can now connect the power cable and turn on the power at the plug socket.
  • It can take several minutes to power up and set up so please be patient. When you have 3 blue lights on the top of the VoIP adapter, it'll restart and then once its powered back up, you are all set and ready to go!

** if you have a DECT phone or a handset that does not have a cable at the base to plug into the Grandstream Adapter this will not be compatible with the Connect Phone Service.
