We now seek a dynamic, ambitious individual to join our Delivery Team. 

 

The Role

The Civils Operative will be working as part of a 2 person reinstatement gang, operating within a wider team of 10 Civils Digging and Reinstatement gangs. This role is focused on delivering high quality reinstatements to support the installation of our telecoms infrastructure. You will complete backfilling and reinstatement tasks following on from trenching, duct installation, and chamber construction carried out by our internal civils team. All works will be completed in full compliance with Health & Safety regulations, NRSWA, HAUC guidelines, and the SROH.

Must be based within a 60 minute commute to Derbyshire sites, as accommodation will not be provided. Van and equipment will be provided for operational duties.

Key Responsibilities

Site works requirements

  • Carry out Reinstatements in carriageways, footways and Verge to the required specifications
  • Complete backfilling and compaction in accordance with specification requirements.
  • Test, Rod and Roping existing BToR Infrastructure
  • Create A55 Creation in line with internal SOPs
  • Carry out TM surveys when required
  • Working safely and in line with industry and site regulations and our SOPs
  • Work as part of a gang, supporting colleagues to meet daily operational demands
  • Prepare surfaces correctly to provide a defect-free finish.
  • Closely coordinating with Civils supervisors and Digging gangs to ensure back fill reinstatements are done effectively within permit timelines
  • Required checks on surrounding integrity
  • Record and provide SPO/Asbuilts documentation with Reinstatements depths
  • Ensuring Permit Compliance (NRWSA, HAUC)
  • Ensure use of in date SafeDig documentation (utility searches, CADs, CAT & Genny checks, gas detectors usage)
  • Support weekend work, out-of-hours tasks, and recovery activities when required

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Ensure strict H&S compliance across all civils operations
  • Responsible for PPE worn to be compliant
  • Conduct Daily Equipment checks before use
  • Ensure all works comply with CDM regulations, NRSWA, HAUC and SROH
  • Ensuring RAMS are suitable, approved, and adhered to
  • Report hazards, incidents and near misses immediately to supervisor & Civils Manager
  • Communicate progress, blockers, and material/equipment needs to supervisors
  • Demonstrating a right-first-time quality and reinstatement standard

Required Experience & Skills 

Essential

  • Strong proven experience in reinstatements works within civils, utilities, telecoms, or highways
  • Valid Smart Awards card with mandatory accreditations uploaded and in date:

            -K008 - Hand rodding in the underground network.

            -NRSWA – Full operative Modules

            -SA002 + SA005 + SA006 – Underground Safety / Safe working in Civils

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of:

            -Streetworks Legislation (NRSWA, HAUC)

            -Reinstatement specifications (SROH)

            -Traffic Management interfaces

  • Physically Fit and Competent user of required Materials and Tools required for reinstatements
  • Able to assess and read job packs
  • Full Uk Driving Licence
  • Must be based within 60 minutes drive to Derbyshire

Desirable

  • Any Civils tickets
  • NPORS Digger/mini Digger accreditation
  • Knowledge of BT Openreach specifications & documentation
  • Knowledge of Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA)
  • First Aid or IOSH qualifications

Reporting Line

  • Reports to: Civils Manager
  • Indirectly reports to: Civils Supervisor/s and Programme Lead (Build Lead)
